European-wide market mapping in the FMCG sector

Our client, a major European FMCG organisation, was considering organisational redesign in particular across the whole supply chain. There was a knowledge gap in how other ‘peer group’ organisations were structured and the procurement function in particular was deemed to be the most critical.
We were asked to conduct an assessment of other organisations’ procurement teams, including level of spend, category focus, the different roles, and numbers of people and respective levels of remuneration.
The exercise covered Europe and was a combination of insights from our extensive supply chain networks and some bespoke desk research followed up with direct questioning of target individuals.
The resultant report covered 14 different companies and revealed a number of gaps in our client’s structure. In particular the need to create viable succession planning for the CPO at the senior end to the introduction of a car / car allowance to help with retention at the more junior end of the team.
