Recruiting a Managing Director in the UK insurance sector

Our client is a market critical industry body that develops and safeguards the e-Trading Standards for the UK Insurance Broking and General Insurance markets. The business provides defined data products and services that supports the implementation of key standards, to achieve good customer outcomes. The business has a unique position in the market and significant influence across the sector.
The brief was to work closely with the Chairman and Board to develop and deliver the business strategy, with an emphasis on people and commercial leadership, managing stakeholders, governance and a mandate to grow the business.
The challenge was to find a high calibre MD with a rounded General Management skillset developed within or related to the Insurance sector, with a digital and technology background. Influencing, negotiation, the proven ability to align parties and optimise stakeholders at Board level, these were all defined as the critical competencies required to succeed in the role.
The shortlist of five candidates reflected these needs of the Client. Previously Digital Director of a leading Broker, our successful candidate possessed a deep understanding of integrated technology, IT practices and developments and demonstrated a clear capability to translate technical concepts into business benefits for the Insurance market. The appointed candidate has a rounded GM skill set with a successful commercial and distribution track record and demonstrated an ability to cultivate networks and enduring relationships.
